Don't hate...there's no room for exhaust under my truck unfortunately. It wasn't exactly meant to have 4" exhaust under it. Anyway, I made a dual stack setup for it a while back, but I'm considering ditching that for a single setup that's offset a hair to the right.

I hate that the left stack is so loud when I'm driving and it also blows soot all inside the cab when I start the truck with the window down. Getting soot/black crap all over whatever I tow is inevitable it seems, but I'm sure there's a trick or a certain cut on the stack I could use to lessen the coverage.

Here's a few pictures of the current pipes:

I cut those a little shorter so they're not very high above the cab. I also have a set of 30* mitre cut pipes I made a while back. All of the pipe in the bed is 5", stacks are too.

So should I leave it alone? Put the turnouts back on? Change it to a single setup? Open for suggestions on this one.

Straight stack? Rain cap too? :D

Leave it as is.

I personally don't like the 1 stack off to one side it makes the truck look like its missing something but if you want the sound and soot a little further away from you then that's about all you can do without going back under the bed.

I wouldn't put a rain cap on it the constant jingling while your idleing will get annoying, I know from having to take them back off stacks that I built for a couple trucks they all wanted em then a couple months later they wanted them off. Lol

Why not put a turn down/out on your exhaust where it turns up into the bed. That should technically exit behind the cab so you would pad inspection without the stacks our sound/soot

I used to have it coming out in front of the right, rear tire. Very funtional, but that tire and rim stayed black all the time. I reckon that's the one drawback to having a diesel truck....something is getting covered in soot, you just have to decide what you want it to be!

I agree, the one stack deal makes it loom like something is missing.

I may just put the turnout pipes back on, like the ones in the pics. They direct the sound a little better. I can either turn them straight back, straight out, or back at a 45*.

I have mine similar to what yours used to be, but instead of turning out in front of the tire, it just has a turn down under the bed, dumping out in front of the rear axle. I dont really notice things getting covered in soot and the sound isnt bad (course mine isnt turned up very much either).

I dont like stacks for the reasons you mentioned (noise, & trail rig being covered in fuel/soot).

1- I dont like stakcs because i constantly have stuff in my bed and they were always in the way
2- The talk of rain caps..there are lots of variation in quality of cps and some you couldnt make rattle

I have two pairs of pipes and they swap out real quick with a stainless band clamp. I'm probably going to leave the turnouts alone and try those in different orientations and then maybe mess with rain caps or something on the mitre cuts.

Just because this thread made me think of this video...

Sorry, no useful input on your dilemma, OP.

We listened to that about 6 times at work. My stomach hurts from laughing and I think I cried the first three time. That was freakin hilarious!

Me and another guy at work found a lot of those. One of my favorites involves a safety inspection and a ladder :D
