just wondering...

mine quit working at DPG on 3/11...none of the buttons do anything (not even make a beep) except for the OFF button...

I'm just not sure if it's the faceplate or the unit itself...

if somebody else had one, I just wanted to pop their faceplate on mine to see if it started working, since I see a couple faceplates for sale on Ebay...

it looks like this:

I have a slightly different model Sony.
It did something similar - showed no signs of power except the light on the power button.
I discovered the switched 12 v power connect to it was flaky, something was goofy in the connection maybe? Anyhow I jumpered it right off the battert and a good ground, strated right up, no problems since. Just a thought? Could you have jossled something in the fun at the DPG?

I can check...

it's powered (i.e. the colored display is on and the clock stays current)...but you can push all the buttons and nothing, except the OFF button which will beep...

Thanks.

that's how mine was too.
I was very perplexed by the fact that it worked at all. I can only figure it was some kind of weird short involving also using the full-time 12 volt line. Remember there are 2, one just feeds the clock and "memory" etc, it's the othe r one that really supplies the power, switched off of the ignitiion circuit.

soem radios also have a "lockdonw" mode they go into if they "think" somebody has tried to remove it w/o doing a special keypress or something, or if it's been shorted to ground. Unlikely, but a thought?

i had a sony once... it did that and i replaced it with a clarion pro audio unit... no problems since!!! :D

Have you tried pressing the reset button? I know most newer sony's have one it's located on the radio itself after you remove the face. Should be able to press it with a toothpick or something. A friend has a Sony Xplode that done this and that is how we fixed it. Not sure if yours is the same problem though.

I haven't tried that...but I'll give it a shot...but the Jeep's at CRS right now, so I'll have to try it in the morning...

the other thing I tried was to use the remote, in case just the buttons were messed up...that didn't work, but I'm guessing the battery(ies) are dead since the radio is 2+ years old...
