I was wondering if, while all of you guys are out driving through the country, has anyone spotted one of these sitting in a field or next to a barn? I've decided to start my search now for a car from the 20's for my rat rod project. If anybody sees a car similar to this

or this

would you let me know? I'd prefer a non convertible because my dream car would be something like this one, but i could make do with what i can get my hands on.

Doesn't matter what brand, chevy, ford, dodge, plymouth...etc. If you've seen one somewhat like this out abandoned in a field or next to a barn, could ya let me know?

well due to family related events during break and my grades not being the best, my dad removed the cherokee from me and stuck me with a corolla for next semester, im not allowed to do anything with it, and i'm probably going to end up selling the gears i just bought for it as well.

Now that we've got the backyard cleaned up a bit we've got the room for him to get the rat-rod project if we find one and hold onto it till the time comes to do it.

So how long til we see the youtube videos....corolla at the boat ramp. Bet ya can't catch big air in that thing

haha naw the corolla videos have already been made, just not uploaded. Will probably be repeated though, you know, hand brake slides, reverse 180's, trays under the wheels....messing with ricers, that sort of junk. Won't ever jump it, messed up my friends Taurus when we jumped it, and muddin in a car doesn't work well either, at least if it's an '01 Buick centry

I understand, hope your brothers doing ok after the car accident.

Havnt seen anything that old that I can recall, but there is a junkyard full of old cars here in Archer Lodge. About everything he has close to the road is from the 50s or earlier.

Last I talked to him ( 3-4 years ago) he wasn't interested in selling anything from the '30's that he has ( which is A LOT)

He kept avoiding the question as to what he was going to do with all of it, He was a nice guy, but kinda odd.

It's a shame, there is a lot of nice old iron out there, couple of Old Pontiacs and CHevy's out there.

The 1960 Ford ragtop would make a nice ride, but I bet he's asking quite a bit. ( the only car there with an actual for sale sign in it )

rat rod

Hey dude check out craigslist. There are a couple of rolling chassis in there but i dont remember the prices.. I believe one is a 39 cheverolet and other was a plymouth. It in the older ads from november.

i saw one in yard one time, Coddington, B was the name on the maibox.

lol, seriously though, try a fiberglass body, much lighter. and you can choose all kinds of custom features. Custom frame with notched rear, 9" out back and a mustang 2 front.

Much easier than trying to find a rusted out piece that you have to restore before you can even start customizing.

well the whole point of a rat rod is you take the rusty body, don't do much with it, leave the bullet holes whatever, maybe slap a coat of black primer on it, floor board made out of some street signs or license plates, whatever cheap you can get your hands on, and just put some money into the engine and brakes, junkyard rear end....whatever. It's about being creative, not throwing a dime-a-dozed glass body on a frame, 9" rear and a 350 chevy

for some reason, i didnt pick up on the "rat" portion of your project.

Just to forwarn ya....there's a lot more thought and effort in a rat rod than you may think after all, at the end of the project, ya still have to pass a safety inspection.

wth happened to your brother??

not here in nc. No inspection required at all for a vehicle over 30 years...or is it 35, can't remember, but our 72's and 56's don't need inspections

There is one in Winton Salem off the Ridgewood exit off 311 it is out by the road with some flowers in the back

Keep in mind that even though it may not require an annual inspection, it still must meet the laws for road safety if you intend to drive it on the road. IOW a cop can still write you a ticket for not having the required items.

Your gonna have to get it titled as an antique or showcar, your gonna have to have someone inspect it and issue a serial number so you can have it registered and titled cause i garauntee that you wont find one i with a title.

i'm not trying to discourage you. I think this is a great idea and sounds like a fun project, just be aware that there are some hoops and red tape down the road. Some of the same crap thats kept me from doin the same.

and getting a car titled as and antique just got harder in NC because of the recent bust. some official was giving out the designations left and rigght to his buddies and got caught, so the tightned down the rules.

There was also a crackdown on reproduction antiques for not being antiques I heard something about lately. So I can imagine the crackdown in other areas as well. Or at least everything re-looked at.

well thats part of the reason i want to get an actual antique rusted body....maybe find a vin or serial # somewhere and go through the process of applying for a new title. we've already bought a few vehicles without titles and gone through all the steps to acquire one, so we're not too worried about that.
