So, the wife and I want to plan a trip for next year...and I think we want to go to the Dominican Republic...a friend of mine is from Puerto Rico and has been to the DR many times and says Punta Cana is the place to go....my problem is...im afraid to fly, but they have really good vacation deals that are all inclusive...but the flight itinerary sucks....for me...like have to change planes 2-3 times....I would rather just have a direct flight from Charlotte to Punta Cana...which I could just take something to knock me out for about 3 hours.... and be good. My question is...if I were to go to a travel agency, can they still do the resort deals with a direct flight instead of the flights that are already picked out? If I buy the plane tickets and then book the room...its way more expensive than if I just do the all inclusive deal.....just really hate flying and would just rather have a direct flight to and from.... any help on flight situation, places to visit in the DR? or just some helpful tips on booking vacations like this? Ive never been out of the country and I know I need to get a passport and stuff like that.

My wife and I stayed in Punta Cana and it really was awesome. No question about it, do the all inclusive resort. One of the highlights of the trip was taking the catamaran to the private Saona island. We sailed to and from and while on the island we had fresh fish cooked over a stone grill. Lounged in hammocks and drank fresh coconut adult beverages until we had out fill.

Take advantage of the DR rum, it's probably my favorite and they are very proud of it on the island. Beaches are as nice as the other islands, I can't remember anything else on the trip except the beaches were great and the catamaran trip was as cool of a tropical experience as you can get.

Here is all I can offer...the DR is the only country in the world that uses the US dollar as its oficial currency and has no extradition agreement with the US...rob a bank first ::beer::

yeah, I have been reading more about it....the only thing I am worried about...is the flying. The pictures I have seen are absolutely beautiful and would just love to go some place where I don't have to worry about traveling to go eat or to go shop...just stay on the beach all week long....what is the best time of year to go?
