Anyone DD a 4Runner?

'90 model 4dr 22RE 5spd, 31" rubber, stock 4.10 gears,manual hubs, locked rear , stock suspension. 15-19mpg, depending on traffic and weather

~250-270 per tank 13.5-14 gal per fill

92 T4R with 31" tires, 3.slow engine, automatic, getting about 12-14 mpg around town. And thats babying it! My XJ with 33" swampers, stock 3.55 gears and a tired 207K mile 4.0 gets the same or better milage and has much more accelaration!

Big key to Toy power and mileage is breathing, get it in, get it out, getting it out seems to help the most. Stock exhaust manifolds are pretty restrictive, but the mufflers are even worse.

I gained 2mpg and stopped burning (as much) oil between changes by changing air filter brands, was using a Carquest (WIX) filter, very restrictive, dropped in Purolator (you will see the differance in media) stopped using oil till I get to about 3500miles ona 5k service schedule. ( the rings in this engine are pretty toasted, compression ain't the best, 168k, very poorly )

My '85 runs much better, but costs more in gas stock gears, 33" tires, header, and larger exhaust. about 15mpg steady better on the hiway

'89 4Runner auto w/ 4Cyl, rebuilt 7k ago, LCE header and 2.25" exhaust all the way w/ "free flow" cat. Also use 3" Supra AFM and cone filter.
19 mpg w/ 31s (stock gears), 21-22 on 235s. Have seen 23.5 1 time.
I noticed a pretty big MPG diff when I switched the AFM/filter.
Oh MPGs are worse w/ the top off, more drag... thats what you pay to look so cool...

got a 98 limited v6, SLOW and bad on gas, babying it i get about 240 to 250 on highway and city and it costs about (well now) 45 to 50$ to fill up.
on the highway with all windows down, it will kill your gas millage!!! trust me

what kindoff exaust can i get that will increase my gas millage but still be quiet, like, i don't want to hear it at all if possible.

Kevin,
Its that big heavy bumper you have on there now. I think your old air-o-dynamical one gave better mileage. Doh...

As for our 97 SR-5, I have no clue. Its the wifes DD and we only have about 55K on the clock. We decided we ought to check the mileage when gas hit $3.00/gal. I always assumed it was around 20 or so, but the numbers I am seeing you guys post is discouraging.

I wonder if the turbo gives better mileage numbers. IIRC the stock mill puts out like 185 Hp and goes up to like 245 Hp or so with the turbo.

I can see it now,.... Honey,..... we have to hot-rod your 4Runner and through the turbo in there to get better mileage. In fact, I better drive it for a while just to make sure.

i dd my 90 4runner, 170k, 3.0V6(its not that slow), 5spd, SAS, it sits about 8" over stock when i have my dd 35's, and 5.29 gears gets about 19mpg on the highway. around town only abut 14mpg or so, but thats just because i drive it hard. i have a homemade intake made from 3" exhaust tube and pipe fittings, and 2.25" exhaust system, single highflow cat, single 40 series flowmaster and single outlet just behind the rear axle. it is very quiet.
i use toyota parts on everything in the engine, plugs, wires, dist, even radiator fluid. oil is mobil 1 syn 10w30

i personaly like the 3.0, i have never had any problems with it, and it has good power. most people however dont like it.
