My truck sat behind our office all day with no one around and tonight noticed my tag was gone. Looks like someone ripped it off. I know it was on the truck last night. It was a weighted tag, guess someone needed one and they couldn't buy one. Anyone else had this happen? Anyone know what is the State going to charge me for a replacement plate?
I hate thieves.

Happened to my brother once... His 94 xj with a fiberglass hatch, he used hex key bolts instead of screwdriver, well they yanked it off taking chunks of fiberglass with them.
He had to pay for the new tag...
Can't remember details.

In my experience people steal tags to move vehicles short distances without being noticed, in stolen vehicles. So... At least they didn't take your ride.

Lost one once, bracket and all was gone. Something like $13 to replace, this was 12-15 years ago. No hassle at all.

It used to be right funny...my now-deported neighbor was always swapping tags on his work trucks. For a long time ran a semi-trailer plate on whatever vehicle he was driving. Sheriff buddy of mine was over one day, we were out in the yard, watched him pulling plate off his car and putting it on his dually.

I hate a thief! Had mine stolen at Charlotte Douglas airport after I was working out of town for a week. Lady noticed it when I was paying for parking and wouldn't let me leave until CMPD showed up. Had to make a report and got a replacement the next day. Best advice I have is to swap out the dinky plastic nut-serts and sheet metal screws for socket cap head screws & nyloc nuts. Doesn't make them impossible to steal, just a little harder than the next guy.

What makes mine worse is I'm headed to the beach with the truck and the Jeep on a trailer. So I sure hope when I get pulled for no tag the officer cuts me some slack tI'll I can get a replacement on Monday.
Starting out as a great vacation, license tag stollen and already had a blow out on the truck on the way to the beach.

My great aunt had hers stolen. The people then got caught for dui and there car sold. Well someone dropped the ball and they didnt check the vin so the dmv had her car as the one they sold at auction. I bought her car and went to the dmv and they tried to arrest me for title fraud. HUGE mess of 4 different dmv guys coming to her house to look at her car then going to look at the mini van they sold at auction. She had a dodge aires and they auctioned off a chevy venture..... No one ever noticed the title for a dodge being for a chevy. Took us 6 months to get it worked out.

you should report it stolen to the police. That way it will be entered as stolen and show as such when the tag is ran. If you only go to DMV it will NOT be labeled as stolen when the tag is ran. That could help avoid the mess that snappy had.

I had mine ripped off in Durham a few times, along with my house broke into twice, my cars multiple times and my shop more than a few times. Always had to pay to replace them, which seems like BS. Since I moved back out to the country I haven't had that issue. I also have a long long driveway with one of those buzzers that let's me know when someone comes up it. I also have motion floods on all 4 corners. If someone comes this far back and they are unannounced they are likely to be greeted with the sound of a round being moved into the chamber of a 12Ga.

This. Also take a piece of cardboard and write "Tag stolen" and your tag number on there and tape it in your back window. Replacement fee is $15, here is a link to the form you need to fill out.

They didn't steal my tag, but tey used a razor blade and peeled off my sticker.

I was guilty of wiping the dust off the old yearly sticker and just slapping a new one on top ,so it built up layers, and that made it easy for the thief to slice off several layers, keeping the current year sticker in tact.

Now I always peel off the old sticker before adding the new one.

Damn, never thought of this. I have at least a decade of stickers on top of each other on the TJ plate.
