I have camped at rausch years ago. There are a bunch of camping spots in the woods around the parking lot, and they have some porta Johns. Thats was about it.

echo valley (wooded, full hook ups, and bath houses) is just down the road, and its way nicer than the parking lot at RC. it is about 5 miles away so you'd have to drive on the street to get to the park.

Tell her the guys from NC that have been coming for years sent you there.

She has always been uptight about bringing your own firewood, but other than that they have been very accommodating to us.

This.
I have camped at RC several times. Basically they have a huuuuge gravel parking lot, and along one side of it is a row of "grass" (which is more like mud and weeds) wit ha row of porta pots. You can camp there free. It's first come, first serve for space, and you have no idea what kind of yahoos may be camping next to you. Sometimes no problems, sometimes drunk assholes.
It's good if you're rolling in late and/or want to hit the trails really early but that's about it, unless you're there w/ a big event and a large group has staked off their own area..
These days our club often just stays at one of the Days Inn or echo valley.

ohohoh...just checked it out and momma's is 30 minutes away....hmmmmm... time for a long distance trip next year.
