Yall might call me crazy since I have one building that isn't finished yet, but that's ok.
I have been talking to a developer about a red iron metal building(40x75x12) he has on a piece of property that he's going to start breaking ground on in the near future. I asked him what he was going to do with the building and he looked at me like I was crazy and said "tear it down". It is approximately 20 yrs old. Has been rented out to several different businesses over the years and shows the signs of neglect on the interior, has all kinds of wiring ,lights , air lines and such that are far from professional work. All that being said, I am thinking about trying to buy it from him and move to my property and re-purpose as an open shelter. I know I will have to add some bracing due to eliminating the wall girts and tin, I would set it on concrete piers, probably elevate them to get more clearance. I would also more than likely replace the roof tin just to avoid any leak potential.

Anyone ever done this? What's yalls thoughts?

The price would have to be right to justify the time and cost of taking the building down and putting the building up. If you do it all yourself, you can probably save a bunch. If you need labor and equipment, it might quickly make the juice not worth the squeeze.

Haven’t done it personally but know someone that disassemble a large red iron building and rebuilt on his property. He always said it was worth it since the building was free but he would never do it if he had to buy the building.
Haven't done it either but this is my thinking.

Subscribed…I have a 12x24 yard barn, I want to move about 20ft further right to extend the back of my driveway, but don’t want the liability of destroying it with my own tractors.

Those aren't too bad. I've moved a few with my skidsteer and a chain, including @Paul's

The folks that sell those type (assuming it's built on 4x6 skids or something similar) will usually move them too or you just need to join the Amish community.....they do it right.

I dont know the price yet, if there is one. My dad has volunteered to help, I family friends teenage son is always wanting to make some $$ and I'd ask a few friends for a day or two of help. This is all to get it down , going back up will take longer obviously. There is a good day or two of work to gut the inside. I have a good size skid loader and a loader tractor, so I believe I will be ok on equipment. Hoping to find something out in the next week or so.

I was going to say the Amish!!! But you said Move it, as I was thinking 1 piece. I don't see reasonable any way! It will have to be dismantled, moved & set up again. Like the others said, if you got the time & Can do it, Good Deal!

it would suck to trip

Ezekiel would look at Jedidiah and Jeremiah in a very disapproving way if they tripped. :D
