They seem to be everywhere these days and I'm just wondering where they get people to work there.

High school kids? Not scary

Desperate unemployed guys? Too scary

School cafeteria workers? Too scary and they have to get up early in the am.

Typewriter repair man? Not scary

Golf instructor? Not scary

I have too much time on my hands. I thought about this a lot on my drive in to work this morning.

I've not only worked in them, I've repaired them, rebuilt them, set them up & tore them down, towed them up & down the east coast even sand blast & painted the base coat on them. Hell, I lived in one for a season.

1) Where do they find workers?

2) Did you ever have sexual relations in a haunted house?

Sorry, I had to ask.............

We hired locals looking to make a few bucks setting up & tearing down.

Yes, in the spook house, the moon bounce, on the merry-go-round, the spider, the flying bobs, a scrambler, paratrooper, a vortex, the swinger & probably several more...

Common for college kids. The tech school I went to did it annually to pay for the annual white water field trip down the Gulley in WV. I did it twice. Very cool back then.

I was in college when I worked at one. it was fun. We did a haunted dorm at ASU and I was Mike Myers. And like in movies I would cross their tour at multiple points. it really added something to it.

Dorm of Doom, East Hall?

I did this in '95 and '96 IIRC when I lived there. We really went all out, set up the whole basement, spent weeks preparing for it. Some people really got freaked out.
IIRC it was like $1 admission, fundraiser for Watauga college.

This sounds awesome. Doesn't happen up here anymore. The most people do with school spirit is go get hammered before a football game in a parking lot somewhere, go to the game, and then passout.

Really? I'd be very surprised. I know Watauga College has moved to a new place up on the other side of campus, I wonder if they do it there now. You should ask around, surely it's done somewhere.
The basement of East was perfect for it, the way the stairs led down and all. East had a real rep for craziness in those days anyhow, this only helped...

EDIT:
According to this, Dorm of Doom is scheduled for 10/31 in East basement....

Show up for that planning meeting next week, I'm sure they'll need hands.

I always assumed the haunted houses used people that would be scary in their own right.
You know, lawyers, mother-in-laws, ex-wives ..... etc.

I never did a house ..... did a couple of haunted trails. Two of the better things was to do something they could not/ did not see ( BOOM from a lighter fluid cannon, etc). And another was to hand someone in a tree with rappelling gear. Scared the poop out of people to see something flying out of the darkness at them

:huggy: No high five smiley, so this will have to do...

reading this makes me think of an idea to make a haunted trail at ure. big foot's could jump out behind trees or shake peoples tents.
