Anyone have a dog with separation anxiety?

I know people swear by it, but I am totally against crating a dog all day long while your gone. They need to know when they did something wrong and be punished for it....we actually use our crate as punishment and our dog HATES it. If she does something bad, we tell her no and we put her in her crate for a good 30 min and we do not look at her or talk to her. after we let her out, you can tell she feels bad and is so calm and usually will lay right beside us and fall asleep.
Taking them on a long walk is also very important, tire them out...let them run.

That's only if you use the crate for punishment... and as long as you give your dog adequate exercise, the crate isn't a bad place for a dog who likes it as a 'den' and can't be left otherwise.

Really, they're not only pack animals, but they're also like toddlers... being away from their pack is the punishment but they have short attention spans and don't necessarily remember why they're punished after 10 minutes.

if you drug your dog, they'll never know you even left!

I kid, I kid, my great dane is just naturally a ra-tard.

That's an awesome picture! I've got some wacky pictures of my boy Curtis when he's sleeping.

We board our dog at doggy day care a lot... He really likes it and is super tired we he gets home and sleeps for the rest of the day... When we do leave the house now (without boarding) he pretty cool about the separation anxiety.

She's a special one, that's for sure. She's a big ol' snugglebug though. She's not a mean dog by any means, but she's very protective over me, my wife, and our son. She's quick to let me know when she doesn't like it when Carson gets a spanking or when Jamie and I are rough-housing. She's an awesome dog....and definitely has no idea she's as big as she actually is
