Anyone have experience cranking the torsion bars on an 02 ranger?

Going to pick up an 02 4.0 liter 4wd Ranger Wednesday and I think it needs a little more rubber on it. It's the 4x4 off-road edition, and I'm looking to get an inch or two out of the torsion bars. Is it possible? Will their be any really adverse affects? How much rubber could I comfortably fit doing it? I only want to put roughly a 31 or so on it.

cranking the torsion bars will indeed lift the vehicle, but it'll ride like a tank.

A body lift may be a better option. A buddy of mine has an 02 With a 3" body lift running 35 x 12.50's. The rears rub a little and he did tweak on the torsion bars - not much. He did run 34.10's with no problems.

I'll ask him, but I'm pretty sure he ran 31's for a while with no lift.

If you only crank them about 1 inch you will be ok, and should be able to run 31's with stockish backspacing on your wheels.

I cranked the t-bars on my 02 frontier for 2 1/2" of lift. The UCA's are now sitting on the bump stops. It rides the exact same as it did before. I find it hard to believe anyone has experienced otherwise even though it SHOULD make the ride stiffer.
And dont do a 1" body lift, that is too much work for only 1". Do at least a 2" bl or you will regret it later. Crank your t-bars up, get add-a-leaf for the rear and get your front end aligned. You will be set.

I did my buddy 06 ranger (same as yours) and he was running 32's with nothing done to the rear. He was also still using the stock wheels. It did indeed ride a tad bit stiffer but nothing to noticable for street use. He has since when back to stock with no ill effects.
