Im headed out on the 3rd, cant wait to see this race. Its been on my bucket list for a while.
Any advice would be awesome. Ill have a stock 4x4 and a camper so I should be comfy in the desert.

Plan on the weather being unpredictable. Take layers, or however you stay comfortable, and rain gear are good ideas. Hiking boots. Take goggles and a bandana for your face but don't, under any circumstances, utter the "W ! n l)" word.

I hope @REDLYNER makes the podium this year but, make no mistake, the water truck driver (aka shitter truck) is the real King of the Hammers.

There's no shortage of food and friends, and you'll make a bunch of new ones.

We were there in 2010 and 2011, but work and kids have prevented us from making it back out since then...

Plan on it being cold. I froze my ass off even with multiple layers and insulated carbarts, etc.

Chap stick and goggles are a must!

Don't bring pallets for firewood and make sure you pick up at least 5 lbs of nails from lakebed and dispose of properly.

As stated before the weather will be very unpredictable. It's a pretty good haul to any decent grocery stores so go prepared. I was there for the 2011 running of the Hammers. A lot of good times to be had with a lot of really good people in Hammertown. Be safe and take plenty of pics and videos.

I'll post up my pit number when they are assigned- come by and say hello! We'll be laying out getting our suntan on, sipping on energy drinks in what is a usually pretty relaxing low stress week ;-).

Pack your water and snacks and sun tan lotion. Cold or hot, the desert sun will get you.

My wife has the race viewing experience down to a science- pit row for the green flag, jumbo tron until the first lappers come in, then bomb the rental car over to Chocolate Thunder, then back to the jumbo tron, then over to Backdoor, then on to the finish line!

Ill stop by for sure, im sure it will be a very relaxing event for you. Id be glad to help if you needed any extra hands.

I just found out that I have a friend that lives very close by so she is now in charge of the details for my eminent arrival one of these years soon! She also said beware of the rains this year! That is a dry lake bed and if the rains come as expected, it will be a lake!

So... warm clothes, sun screen and now a fishing pole.

I have heard the same about the rains this year due to el nino or la nina whatever its called. There isnt much high ground. when you come in on boone rd you'll cross a bridge, anywhere on the left is a decent spot. Also the winds that time of year can be bad.

Be aware that any fire pit you see has nails and broken glass in it and they are everywhere. They claim they sweep the area for nails before the race but there is just so much of it out there.

Get a map.

There is wildlife out there, so check your shoes before you put them on.

The closest spectator areas are chocolate thunder and Jack Hammer both are easy to get to from the lake bed. There might be more spectator areas just depends on how they do the course this year but your better off with either of those cause you can bounce between the two easily or go back to hammer town and watch it on the big screen TV.

Please do post where you'll be. I definitely want to make a point of checking out your Jeep. How big is your bag of hair products for this trip? My group will have a rental, but we don't know the area very well. We'd greatly appreciate it if your wife would fill us in on the best race day spectator plan and how to execute it.

I'll be heading out with my brother-in-law (@diesel_powered_CJ5 ), dad and nephew for my bachelor party. Thursday will be our first day on the lakebed. I'm down to PM contact info if a group of NC people want to get together. Should be a great time.
