So I lost my keys at work today. I have never lost my keys before, and like an idiot I do not have any duplicates.

I have 2 97 cherokees now, and no key for them and need some made asap, if I can save a few bucks that would be great.

I heard you can go to the dealer and give them the vin number and they make you a key for cheap, $20 a piece, but I kind of don't know if that works for older vehicles.

Help me out!

One Cherokee is at my house in stokesdale, the other at work in brown summit.

Had the dealer make a key for the white XJ because the title is in my name, had a long day and went to look at an XJ from a member here, got there and it wouldn't run so came back but wasted the whole day, got home about 20 minutes ago, key does not work. fits in, but won't turn. Don't know if I can call them back and complain or what there, guess I need a locksmith now.

Take a wire wheel or a pocket Knife and dull the edges of the cut down considerably. I made some keys at the dealership that were cut to sharp edged , some house keys I've had made were the same way. Good luck!

Shelled out $120 for a 24 hour locksmith, the key from the dealership was 100% off. No idea what they gave me...
Now I just have to worry about the other jeep lol.

Clusterfuck of a week, nothing has gone right.

Somebody may have swapped out the key cylinder at some point in the past. All they can give you is a key for a stock ignition. That being said, I had two keys made for my Silverado a while back from a GM dealer. They were 8 bucks each, score!

You'll probably get some spares now huh? :D

Man that sucks Eric, this is why my Honda has a hideakey underneath, and I have a key for the Honda and the Jeep in my tool box, and a set at home. I think my Jeep still has a key hidden inside, can't really lock a soft top lol. I lost my keys only once and had to wait for some one to bring me a spare. Never again lol.

This is why my jeep doesn't require a key to start.

The key works for the door locks too, so if they did, they spent the big bucks to do it right. Go figure right.

Damn right, spares for everyone! Giving my dad a spare, probably my brother a spare, gonna keep a spare at my house, moms house etc... lol.

The white jeep had a hide a key, but apparently it was lost in a mudhole or trail or just at highway speeds... probably when the transfer case exploded on 220 lol.

The worst part is Anthony is wanting to buy the blue XJ, has the cash so I should pay for another locksmith to make that key again. Just a frusterating mess but I have learned from it.
