So im finally tired of getting hung up on my rear diff over everything, it stops me more than anything else on my car, so ive decided im going to cut at least a little bit off of it.

Ive searched on naxja and not really found much of anything, thought id try here

if anyone has done it how much did you take off? i'd love it if it were smooth on the bottom, but im really not sure what to do about the cover if i took that much off(im still running the stock cover, may beef it up some, but have no money for an aftermarket cover at this point)

the other option ive considered is to take some off, then plate the bottom to shape it more like a ramp, but im not sure about welding to the centersection, im assuming its cast and ive never welded mild to cast before, but if that seems like a good idea theres a first time for everything, and that would be a good non critical part to practice on

enough rambling? any opinions?

I have been considering this option also... I also saw that (i think) Turbo City (Rock-It) makes a bolt on glider that would take care of the problem. http://www.turbocity.com/product_in...d=129&osCsid=f9db186f0c041170ddccf98368fb95eb

I dont know if it's worth it or if anyone is running it... I saw a picture on a jeep and it looks like it would allow you to skid forwards and backwards on your dif. w/o getting hung up.

I may just make one.

I took an angle grinder with a cut off wheel and cut maybe 3/8-1/2" of that lower lip off the housing. Also ground a bunch on it to round it out so it would not get snagged as bad. I trimmed the diff cover to the same size as the diff guard so it would't get peeled up.
