Anyone install sights on guns?

I bought my father in law some fiber optic sights for his xdm 40 for christmas and i know the factory sights are heat pressed in and wondered if anyone did minor gun work on the side or knew of anyone who did it near greensboro/high point area.

Buy a sight pusher if you shoot much or have many pistols, as much for adjusting the sights as changing them.

might look into this...only thing is, Not my gun and he is willing to pay to have them installed....I just don't want to screw up his gun.

the xd's and xdm's are pressed in and a pain to get out with out scuffing up the slide. im a certified gunsmith but do not have the proper tool to remove them as the tool is over $100 and i cant justify it as this is only the second time in the past 5 years iv seen someone want to change them. i cannot think of anyone local that would have the tool though i will ask around and see what i can come up with.

Yeah, he has tri focal lenses in his glasses and needs something bright to focus on when shooting

If you're ever in Morganton, I can do it. I've heard that usually xd factory sights get mangled on removal though. Your local gunsmith should be able to with no problems.


:edit: Disclaimer: I think XD's are gayern hell though.

I want to say around $25 but, it's been several years. They were the only one with the tool though, at least at that time. Everyone else wanted to knock them out with a punch. Have you called Gander Mtn?

I haven't even thought about Gander...hmmm I bet they would be kinda high though. $25 sounds like a steal to me.
