Anyone keen on racing in exotic locations outside USA?

I'm a motor sport promoter based in the Caribbean, my speciality is rallying.

For years I've been thinking a Caribbean off-road rally run over two days in early December (when it's warm here but not everywhere else) would be a good way to get racers together from USA, UK and Europe.

How many US-based off-road racers would be keen to travel to the Caribbean for the party of their lives with some great off-road racing included?

Cost would be about US$6,000 including two return flights, hotel room for seven nights and return shipping for the car (cars with spares would have to fit inside 40' shipping containers loaded in Miami). Rum and BBQ would be extra.

Are you somehow related to the Nigerian Prince that is holding my inheritance?

If this is in fact legitimate, additional details would be nice. Are we talking WRC type rally, amateur rally, ultra4?

Trump rally? Get racists together from around the world?

You say "return shipping for cars" but I assume we have to get the cars there first?

Thats probably what kills the deal at first glance. Freighting a car into a carribean island is tricky.
Depending on the particular island, tariffing/importing it could be trickier. Not getting it confiscated by certain governments could be trickier still.

All that sorted out.
Why would flight and transportation be covered by the race promoter? I mean cool that it is, but unusual.

First blush it reads like a scam.

Barbados wouldnt be my first pick of an easy government to work with.

Figure all that out...and Id be interested...

And I know 1 or 2 offroad racers that could have the word spread to them....

This reads like a bad Craigslist response, you only have two posts on this website. This and in the newbie check in. That's just my $.02

Let's give the guy a shot.

Google his username...it matches a known Rally guy and here is some validity to his e-presence.

This is too interesting to run him off before we know its a scam.

I spent some time last summer on the autobahn,in a tour bus, does that count as exotic???

Thanks for the responses gents.

For the sceptics, please google my name. Yes, I am that Greg Cozier.

For the keen, check www.barbadosrallycarnival.com for a similar event I've been running since 2001.

As far as details are concerned, right now this is just a kernel of a thought to do something different. So far I've organised modern rallycross, modern special stage rallies and historic special stage rallies and travel the world promoting them.

If there is enough interest in the UK, French and SE-USA off-road fraternity I'd get deeper into it. Right now what I'm thinking is a Friday night start in a population centre for crowd entertainment purposes, Saturday morning 7am re-start with three 10 to 15 mile special-stages repeated once, finishing around 5pm. Sunday morning 7am restart with two 10 to 15 mile special stages repeated once to finish with a short super-special stage on the beach and prize-giving beach party hog roast around 3pm.

Navigation would be by measured tulip diagram with clearly marked hazards. No recce allowed but in-car video would be available as well as Google-Earth maps. Depending on numbers, one minute start intervals. Timing by GPS senders in the cars.

Classes would be some kind of stock, super-stock and open, divided into 4cyl and 6/8cyl.

Return shipping means the entry fee includes shipping from Miami both ways. Entrants would be given a date to bring their cars to the docks and load them in shipping containers with spares.

Right now I'm assembling an e-mail database of people who have cars and a travel budget for December 2017, if you are one of them please e-mail greg@barbadosrallycarnival.com.

This just got cool. :bounce:

Why not include the Western us. If I understand correctly it's going to be set up as more of a rally style event and not rock crawling. I'm sure some of the desert racers would be interested

I haven't addressed the Western US only because it costs more to ship a car from California to Miami than it does to ship it from Miami to just about anywhere in the Free World. I'm not excluding the Western US, just not depending on it for project viability.

For this to work I'd need to get 50 entrants firmly committed and paid up by March 2017 to ship from either Miami USA or Portsmouth UK. Late entrants between March and October 2017 would just add to the fun and scale of the event.

Maximum number would be 90 for one minute starts over 1-1/2 hours to avoid overlap when the stage loop repeats.

How soon before the race does the car need to be in Miami? How long does it take to get it back after the race?

Add me to the email list. jwcalla@yahoo.com. I'll reach out directly as well.

Shit, Shannon Campbell could throw down that kind of cash as well as many of the other Ultra4 crowd. It'd be a mistake not to ask them directly.

This is cool! I know nothing about rally, but a BroLite class would be tits if you could get enough vehicles for it.

Nothing more to add :D

Three starters constitute a rally class. Any formula which promotes affordable motorsport would be embraced. We all need to spend less on cars and more on rum.

A rally car is basically a weather proof race car. When weather gets ugly circuit racers tend to hide under their mothers' skirts in the pits. Rally drivers turn on their windshield wipers :)

Two exceptional quotes in one post. Saved for future reference. Thanks

Any better info on classes, specs and rules?
Nature of the course? For 6k and a chance of a lifetime that far out with enough info on a basic non pro type class I would heavily entertain the idea. Even better a 4 cylinder 2wd truck class. I read 2 return flights. So I am assuming 2 man teams and any support members would be on the teams.

My new build will have wipers...I'm intrigued

Matt

@Dylan W. brolite caribean?

also. since no else is gonna bring it up..whats the rock crawling like there?

is there a possibility of doing an ECORS event there?

what about an off road rally like the camel GT?

Since ECORS is no more i highly doubt there will an event there!!!

Some answers:

No rock crawling, I'd imagine an average speed of 30mph over three days and 130 miles of farm and forestry tracks. Not too rough, top speeds could be 70mph.

Entry fee would include return tickets from Miami for driver and navigator. Any other team members would attend at discounted flight and hotel rates.

No more info on classes until I have a better idea of the teams entering.
