Just got back from taking my wife to Kerr Reservior catfishing. Ended up catching about 25 catfish and 3 stripers, biggest cat being 48.5lbs. A year or two ago I became a member of an online forum for Catfishing and every other kind of fishing. Has tons of info and up to date fishing reports on most bodies of water in the US. The people on this forum are top notch, always willing to offer help and tips to get you in the fish.

Heres a few pics of the fish we caught this weekend.

That's a huge cat! Were you using live bait or stinkbait or?? Looks like a handfull on the rods I see hanging in the holders.

I used to spend 2 weeks a year on Kerr fishing for striper, I've since decided that by downriggers are more useful elsewhere (as it turns out I suck at striper fishing) and taken up offshore fishing though.

Man thats a beautiful Amberjack! We got that cat on cut gizzard shad fishing down lines( carolina rigs) around the thermocline. Downriggers are the stink. I catch tons of stripers pulling leadcore and down riggers. Shoot me a pm next time you head out and maybe we can meet up and I can give you a few tips. Don't be too hard on yourself, stripers are hard to come by in the summer doldrums.

Thanks for the reply...

Next time I head up I'll try to catch up with you. I've never had a ton of luck on Kerr aside from jigging rat-l-traps at the dropoff near the rock wall adjacent to south bend park.

May have to give the cut bait a try around home for some big cats, I did catch a few 15-20lb on some old shrimp and squid bottom rigging, but I've seen several 40-50lb fish boated out of the neuse.

Another good NC fishing resouce is www.ncangler.com, you can also catch up with me on there as LADave.

Oh yeah, not sure what you're riding in out there, but we normally run a couple of big striper trips out of Oregon inlet during the winter, get a few boats together and troll some large bucktails and deep divers up and down anywhere from Nags Head to Va. Beach, if you want I'll give you a heads up when we get right to go freeze out butts off in the name of fish.

I'm down with that! I have been going out there and getting on those guys for a few years now. Give me heads up and I'll bring the boat and my stuff. The more boats the easier to find em!! It doesn't matter what temp it is I'll go fishing.

Is that kerr scott res in wilkesboro? Didnt know thee were any cats left in there that big.

You need to go be a fishing guide....biggest fish I've ever caught was with this guy, he knows his stuff when it comes to getting hooked up, nice catch.

They have all types of tournaments up there, striper, catfish, bass, and probably crappie. Its a great lake to fish.
