Debating installing one on my TJ...wanted to see some pics if you have them. I've seen several with the kit you can get online...but lately I've seen some pretty creative ones using a bicycle brake lever...debating on what I should do.
I built one with a combination of bicycle parts and a hand throttle off a push lawnmower one time. I liked it cuz you could set the throttle at a position and keep it there like it was a cruise control. Also was great for running up the speed of the engine and holding it there for winching or jump starting someone elses car. I just had to add a heavier throttle return spring so it would always return to idle.
I had one back in the day when I was running a standard trans. I bought it from rubicon express for 30 bucks I think. Later went to an auto tranny and removed it. Its a pretty easy install. I had the hand throttle mounted on my tranny shifter.
I've been thinking about doing one as well. I think I'm going to go with something like this so it will stay in position. Kind of like cruise control for the trail. http://www.4x4xplor.com/handthrottle.html
got one i built for $10 that works great, hand rev and set ideal can text pics and parts if you want, built with bike parts and and a few clamps and zip ties
I had one that used an old bicycle shifter that didn't have any indexes, so you could set it wherever you wanted. Had zero dollars in it and worked great, just changed transmissions and was too lazy to put it back on.
Agreed on the bicycle shifter cable set up. Probably one of the best mods I have done to my jeep. Very useful when you need 3 feet. I use it like a tractor throttle.
