I know this is a long shot, but does anyone work at a BMW/Mini dealership? It's a long story, but the short of it is that my wife's Mini is having engine trouble. The local dealership (Italian) quoted us a price and list of stuff that needs to be done. I'd like to find out if what they are saying matches up with what is really going on.

Thanks in advance.

mini's are their own animal. they are made by bmw but have to have their own techs and parts division.(at least in nc) every time i have to work on one it's a nightmare of epic proportions trying to get anything done on them.
mini's are the worst thing made since landrovers

i should have clarified that from a parts and price standpoint, they are outrageous. ($800 alternators, motor must come out to replace trans, to pull motor must remove whole front clip) working on them is a completely different story. evidently germans hands have shrunk even smaller than the japanese.

I agree, terrible cars to work on. Recent repair I did was a water pump. I thought I was going to have to pull the engine just to get a wrench on that stupid tensioner counter pulley thing.

Actually there are two guys on here that do. Give me a few minutes and I'll get you their screen name

rattlecanpaint (Peter) and PWR4HIM (Nathan)
They both work at the same dealership in Winston-Salem area (if I remember correctly)
Neither have been on here in awhile. Send them a PM and they may get an e-mail notice.
