(Back Story) While searching around on the local craigslist. I came across a XJ. Add said the normal stuff. But what caught my eye was that he said it would stall when put in reverse. First thought lead me to the trans. Went and looked at it. It had a 4.5in rough country lift. 33in mud terrains. Stubby front number with a harbor freight special. 200,000miles. Good interior .And a few LEDs mounted here and there. It cranked right up but as soon as it got reverse it stalled. And sure enough it wouldn't crank. Went home and thought it over, and decided to buy it. 1800 sold with a clean title image.jpg

So after unloading and getting all the oooh and awes outs time to get to the grit. Grabbed the tools and went at it......it took me a whole whopping 30 seconds to find the problem. The trans was being held in by 2 bolts.......causing the trans to literally be able to wiggle by hand. When the engine turned over it would wiggle the trans 1/4in away from the engine. So the stalling in reverse was caused by the torquing of the trans going into reverse causing the flex plate to hit the CPS sensor and chew a hole in it. Put a new sensor. And new bolts in the holes and it purred like a straight piped kitten! Until it was throwing up trans fluid from the bellhousing next adventure.. Transmission

Okay so I've never taken a aw4 out and needless to say it was interesting. I understand this thread sucks without pictures. But I'm trying to catch up and get to where I'm at with it now. Took about 2-3 days of messing with it then having to leave to work and coming back to mess with it for me to get it out. That was a interesting task with my one crappy floor jack and a few jack stands :nopics::driver:

Here's how she sits now just kinda waiting for time and money to allow the new trans to go in. Im going to go ahead and replace the rear main, flex plate, trans front seal, an a few other things!

Okay done a lot here lately, roof rack and trans is done I actually finished the trans today, the shift cable game gave me some problems due to a broken clip. The new front seal is working great with no problems. I managed to get a new air box the old one wasn't even ment for a jeep and caused it to idle horribly. So far she runs good
