As far as putting stuff down storm drains/curb inlets, ever seen folks pour used motor oil down them?? I have, but not in a while. I do remember seeing a guy do it down the street from my folks house, it dumped into the creek I played in as a boy, catching all kinds of critters and fish back when it was somewhat pristine, before the infill of suburbia about ruined it. This guy was not stupid, just too lazy to dispose of the oil the right way, I stopped my truck and asked him if he knew the penalty of this and that he might have to pay to clean the oil out of the creek, even though I was'nt sure it was even illegal then!!. In my surveying years I frequently found " straight pipes " dumping raw sewage from septic fields or phosphate from washing machines straight into streams and I know this was a common practice years ago and still done in rural areas. One guy had 3 fishing boats in his yard and I asked him about the pipe coming from his property into small ditch flowing gray water into the creek that was the property line when he came to talk to me as I surveyed the adjoining property, he said "that's just from the washing machine, not the septic" I asked him if he understood that any type of man made pollution can be harmfull to fish and other water dwelling animals and if he liked to catch and eat the fish, he should have more respect for the water everywhere cause it all flows somewhere, maybe to you fishin holes. It seemed he had never thought of that before, or he just did'nt give a shat. I told him part of my job obligation was to locate/ map this type of stuff when doing a survey and he seemed to be uncomfortable about that.
