Am I the only one who sees folks, usually driving nice new automobiles, tossing Applecores, Bananna peals, etc out the window as they eat their healthy breakfast on their way to work?? Do these folks realize this type of litter contributes to roadkill of lots of different animals but mostly young Racoons, Opossums, Foxes etc. Crashes also happen when drivers swerve to avoid hitting critters in or crossing the road trying to find the source of the sweet smelling fruit. I see lots of this from folks on their way to RTP in the morning, like this morning.

Stay out of Charlotte then. I'd much rather see someone throw an apple core out of a window than a fast food bag. Something I have seen no shit at least 5 times now. Even once saw a guy shoving multiple bags of car trash down a storm drain at a check cashing place with an outdoor trashcan 15' away.
These were all caprices and crown vics though, maybe Raleigh is classier.

You really think most roadkill is caused by pieces of fruit thrown out of car windows?

I remember the crocidile hunter Steve Irwin used to say ''Crikey...these food carcasses will cause an animal carcass or aven worse..a kire accident'' just after he slide his truck sideways in the middle of the road...bailed out and ran to scoop up a bannanna peel. sorry, your post just reminded me of ole Stve.

I agree about real trash vs, and don't think most roadkill is from fruit but it does happen. It just bothers me that folks who probly would never throw trash out the window, don't hesitate or think of the consequences of throwing food on the road/shoulder.

Yea, I miss Steve too even though he was sometimes really annoying!!

I've seen something similar, a guy in an F-150 in a gas station parking lot raking plastic bottles, chip bags, and various trash out of his floor boards into a storm drain. We had words, but I don't think the moron ever saw the problem with his actions. There was a trash can right at the curb and a dumpster less than 30' from his truck. :flipoff:

Its been years but I went up to a van at a stop light and threw his McDonalds trash back in the car while I said politely "You must have dropped this Sir."

Sumbitch looked like he had been busted for DUI.

I want to do this with peoples lit cigarette butts. Talk about chapping my ass...

As far as putting stuff down storm drains/curb inlets, ever seen folks pour used motor oil down them?? I have, but not in a while. I do remember seeing a guy do it down the street from my folks house, it dumped into the creek I played in as a boy, catching all kinds of critters and fish back when it was somewhat pristine, before the infill of suburbia about ruined it. This guy was not stupid, just too lazy to dispose of the oil the right way, I stopped my truck and asked him if he knew the penalty of this and that he might have to pay to clean the oil out of the creek, even though I was'nt sure it was even illegal then!!. In my surveying years I frequently found " straight pipes " dumping raw sewage from septic fields or phosphate from washing machines straight into streams and I know this was a common practice years ago and still done in rural areas. One guy had 3 fishing boats in his yard and I asked him about the pipe coming from his property into small ditch flowing gray water into the creek that was the property line when he came to talk to me as I surveyed the adjoining property, he said "that's just from the washing machine, not the septic" I asked him if he understood that any type of man made pollution can be harmfull to fish and other water dwelling animals and if he liked to catch and eat the fish, he should have more respect for the water everywhere cause it all flows somewhere, maybe to you fishin holes. It seemed he had never thought of that before, or he just did'nt give a shat. I told him part of my job obligation was to locate/ map this type of stuff when doing a survey and he seemed to be uncomfortable about that.
