ARB Install? Where and How Much?

I have F&R ARB lockers on the way. I just called one shop I heard good things about and they wanted close to $1000 to install them both, $600 If I bring in the thirds.

Talk about sticker shock:handed:

Do these seem like fair prices, I've never had it done so I am clueless. I ASSuMEd it would run about the same as a R&P install which runs about $200 each around here, if you bring in the thirds.

BTW, I'm in SC, but I haven't heard of any 4x4 shops around these parts. I figured NC would have the closest options.

Thanks

Vince

in the charlotte area theres CRS and rockmonkey, plus im sure some others that arent coming to mind right now... try those 2

Bring the 3rds.....$400......in the truck, $600 24 hr turn.

Let me know if I can help. We have a customer that comes up from Columbia regularly if you need em transported..

Thats a little steep.... But in addition to the R+P think about this...... The installer has to wire/mount the Air Compressor, switches, run air lines from the compressor to the diff, drill and tap the housing, and run a line from the fitting to the ARB. It is a considerable extra amount of work. I have heard nothing but good things about Carolina Rock Shop.

That price from us does not include wiring/running the compressor. Just taking care of the axles themselves. Most of our customers want to do the compressor install because it is very straight forward, just time consuming.

Expect 2-3 hrs additional labor for the compressor install.

Take it from someone who does a lot of gear and axle work.

An ARB install is not something you want someone learning on.

Depending on the vehicle, and whether it is in the vehicle or on the bench and options. Expect any reputable shop to get from $200-400 labor per axle for an ARB install.

Anyone doing it much less than that is either doing it "on the side" or hasn't done enough of them to know what the job is worth.

As close as you are to Charlotte - You would do well to take it to Andy @ CRS.
He will do right by you.

I plan on doing the compressor, switches and lines, myself. That qoute was for just the lockers.

Amen to that, I will pay a pro a fair price, my question was what a fair price was in this case.
Average shop rate is $50, that means that shop is saying it takes around 20 man hours to complete the job, since they also said it was one day turn around that meant they would have to have minimum of 3 guys working on all day (minus a lunch break) in order to accomplish that. That seemed a little beyond the realm of reality for me, hence the post;)
Looks I'll be giving Andy a call. Thanks for the info everyone!

I'm at Coastal Transmission in Morehead City and I have setup many many gears and lockers, if thats any closer we'd be glad to help, the shop rate is $70 an hour and it shouldn't take more than 5-8 hrs

thanks for the quick reply....will do

and if your time is less valuable than money...spend the time to drop the axles from the vehicle (and take him just the housings), and save $100/axle...

:D

I'm up at Andy's usually once a week or every other week. I live in Columbia, if I'm making the trip up I don't mind taking the parts up, can't promise I can get them back if its an all day job, but anything is possible.
