Looking at Craig list for NC , I have seen CJs with asking prices like these 85 CJ7 9500 , 76 CJ5 6500 , 84 CJ7 9800 , 74 CJ5 9500 , 84 CJ8 16,500 , 79 CJ7 9000 . Now these jeeps look great and I am sure these people have a ton of money in them but are they selling at these prices ? Has anyone in the last year sold a CJ for this kind of money . Now I am a "jeepguy " and I am not trying start anything here , I just can not see people paying these prices .

Nothing is selling right now..even at killer prices..Although just like the crazy tj and yj prices...people will pay looney prices for open tops period..Then you compound it with the looks of a nice cj and the semi rareity of Really clean solid ones and BAM..big price and people paying it.

For what it's worth, and this was discussed in another thread...

My '74 CJ-5 was re-evaluated, by the county, this spring to what I considered to be a ridiculous price, and the taxes were raised accordingly. I protested some, and got the proposed new tax down by 50%. My CJ-5 is clean, but not without some flaws. A local dealer, whom I went to for advice, told me that my CJ would easily bring $6500, and he suggested I pay the reduced tax and be happy with it. Thus, I did. The point being... yes, older CJs, etc. have increased considerably in value. As "chromerunner" put it, "compound it with the looks of a nice CJ, and the semi rarity of really clean solid ones, and BAM... big price, and people paying it."

Craigslist always has people putting ridiculous prices on things. And it's free to do so they will all day long. Those are also the same jeeps you'll see popping up over and over again for the next 6 months...

sold a CJ for 5300, thats the most I've ever got, but Ive seen a rall nice one bring 7500 at auction, but guy probly had 15-16K in it

I have a couple theories...
1) There's a sucker born every minute
2) 'Alright honey...I'll try and sell it'.

yep ass for every seat, and # 2 is dead on

#2 is great.

hahah i will chime in on this and yes there are some suckers born. after i sold my suburban i was looking for some general priced jeeps. skimmed through craigslist........holy crapppp, people trying to get 5k or 7k for an old CJ?!?!?!!? those people are looney.

I know people restore them if they are in bad shape, but I can find XJs, Tacomas, full size rigs for almost half of what they want a CJ for.

Ah, Its something about a CJ. If I had a high volume of cash I would probably buy one of those 7k cj's But I would also put it in the woods and it would be worth the same as mine at the end of the day. CL is a crazy place to start with.

I've noticed this too. I want another Heep, but it's hard to pay $5500+ for an older one when you can find a TJ for that price now. CJ5s aren't that hard to come by, but a nice CJ7 carries too much of a premium.

The good thing is that a CJ will be worth just as much 5 years from now as it is today as long as you keep it up. The $5500 TJs aren't going to depreciate much either though.

Yep, super nice CJ bring the $$$, Recently sold all original, [except new top and wheels/tires], 65k miles, v8, auto, a/c for 13k plus!!! Had 3 people wanting it! First money got it.

I was on the wakegov.com site the other night, and discovered mine was valued at $850....I might let it go for 10 times that
