Are load Es a must

Just wondering this... If I could get away with an 8 or even a 6 ply tire for towing? I will be towing a 18ft trailer with a yota on tons/40s/350/203/300 etc to give a estimate of weight with a j10 converted to a j20? I will either be running bags or a leveling spring kit in the rear. Let me know opinions as a good load E tire is expensive.

Its all about the weight rating
You can actually find "D" rated tires from brand X that are rated higher than brand Ys "E"

I found that my Load range E's ride better with a load and have lasted longer than the D's I was running. This is on my Excursion.

Not sure of brand, but I am running load range D's on my van. And C's on my trailer.
Couldn't go heavier duty on the trailer because of size and clearance

Not an aggressive tread but is a good tire at an excellent price. Landair Falkan's "E" rated and 40K mile tire at $85 a piece at sears. Been a good tire to me for the last year or so.
