The terminal posts on the end of my REP 8500 stick out about 3/8" past the drum, interfering with the plans I have for a bumper wrapped around it.
In my zeal to see if I could replace them, w/ shorter posts (which btw would not be trivial) I took the cap off the rotor end... and in the process, lost one of the little springs that hold the magnets in place.... popped off to some dark corner of the garage....
Grrr...
Where could I find one of those little spings?

Is it one of the little springs that is rolled up on both ends? Do you have a pic? I've got a busted winch motor and I might have what you're looking for.

See here:
This is the underside of the cap on the motor end of the unit.
The main input contacts are connected to these 4 leads (1 per opposite side), which slip into these slots and are pre-loaded via the springs.
You can see one of the springs on teh right, I've pulled out the lead; on the left is the matching lead, no spring.

Those are called brushes, not magnets. They're a graphite compound, and conduct electricity to the armature. Yeah, that spring needs to be there. I don't know how universal they're going to be, though. Old starter motors might have them, but I'd call a starter shop, (there's a couple around here, I'm sure,) and see if they have one.

Sorry... to me, metal conducting snotpiles of current = magnet. I'm not up on all the terminology.

The pic isn't showing. I have the whole motor but the piece that holds all the springs and brushes is busted up. If I can see the pic and I have what you need I'll mail the part to you. It's junk to me anyways.
