Asking opinions on calling out a "bad seller"

Just curious on folks opinions on calling out someone on here that you think knowingly screwed you on a sale.

Quick story here. I posted a wanted add for a carb, posted what I needed it for, get a pm from the person saying they will have one for sale in a few days. Well I see this person posted an add a few days later for the carb, ( now here is part of the reason I ask for opinions because I kinda screwed up) I didn't read the add just noticed it was the carb and same person. I pm and ask if he has it, and if it will work for my application, person told me they bought it for the same vehicle but wasn't going to use it. I drive over an hour, buy it, get it home and find out its completely wrong. During this I was talking to another member about another carb that would work but circumstances didn't allow me to pick it up (messaged the person and got no answer, turns out it was my phone service and they didn't receive the message), then this one was a little closer. Come to find out the person that sold me the wrong one went and bought the right one from this other member the next day even after telling me he didn't need the one he sold me because the truck sits and he didn't want it to "go bad" just sitting. Now I know I don't have real proof but it doesn't take a genius to figure out he knew exactly what he was doing.

Now granted it is a used part and partly my fault for not being a little more diligent on my end, but I was told it would work and the part number was correct. But seriously the biggest thing I'm pissed about is knowing that a member on here would intentionally screw someone else by selling them a part they knew won't work, because it didn't for them. I know, I know, it happens all the time on the old interweb but you I would hope you could think a little better of people on here.

Am I wrong for being pissed? Should I just write it off and let it go or call the person out in front of everyone? Just curious as to others opinions. Now I got lucky and sold the part in question to someone that could use it, but ended up losing like $75 on it just a couple days after I bought it. Sucks cause if I'd have bought the one that would work from another member, I would have actually saved $150.

so he sold you a part knowing it would not fit your application. You trusted & did not do your due diligence to be sure it's correct. Sounds like you got a doubbya fuck. He fucked you and then you pulled him in balls deep.. I would move on with life, lesson learned.

Yea, this is one where you just gotta eat it.

The other guy may be shady, but no one forced you to buy the wrong part without double checking to make sure it would work.

Unless the part was defective or mis-labeled or something like that, I don't see much room for recourse on this bad deal.

That being said, what carb do you now possess that won't work? Any chance that its a 650-750cfm?

That's what I figured. The thing that bugs me is he represented it as a specific carb knowing it was not, I had no way of checking because there was no original box or actual number on it plus any picture you see of the product presents it as correct. But there is an easy way to handle the situation, I'll just make it my last time making a purchase from someone on here, since it seems like people on here are fine with someone intentionally screwing another member I just won't trust any. I work way to damn hard for my money and rarely get to spend anything on my truck, just figures this would happen when I do get a chance to work on it.

You asked the opinion of the folks on here. Now because it's not what you wanted to hear. We are all assholes, that are ok with people misrepresenting or selling something different than what the buyer thinks it is.

Am I getting this right?

I'm not fully understanding whether or not the carb was falsely advertised by seller, or if you as the buyer should have done more research for your certain application.

If the seller blatantly gave misinformation, or falsely advertised it, he is guilty as well.

If the item was correctly advertised, yet you misunderstood of falsely understood that the application was correct for you, that is your fault.

Without links to the original threads, or screenshots of the previous threads, messages, emails, texts, then,

IMO there isn't enough practical evidence for either to be certain.

With that said, I've bought items that were correctly advertised that ended up being wrong for my specific application. It happens.

At the same time, I've bought items that were completely falsely advertised, and been completely screwed on. This happened on a set of tires that the seller sent me 4 different pictures of the same tire, yet told me they were images of the whole set. I got screwed big time...

It doesnt mean i stop using the forum I just make sure to avoid those specific members.

I now try to deal with known reputable members, and buy things from areas of the state where people I trust can check something out first hand and pick up for me.

What is original seller saying? Seen on the other thread where a weber was offered for sale without the base and you stated you had that already. Why is it wrong, won't fit your base or the intake?

I wouldnt go so far as to say not to trust anyone on here. Ive bought and sold a good bit of things on the board and have never had a bad experience yet. Which is mainly the reason why i will see what sells on here first before i list it anywhere else. I know this doesnt really help on your carb issue, and hate that happned to you but i wouldnt let one bad sell keep you from buying more off the forum.

Sounds like you wanted a pity party and didn't get your way.
I have bought and sold lots over the past few years on this site, and can't think of a bad experience...

Trust but verify.
Caveat emptor

Sucks that you got the wrong stuff, but it sucks even more that just because people are telling you something you dont want to hear, you essentially went on to say that the forum as a whole is ok with someone ripping you off.

1) Based on the information you have provided, there is no proof that the guy intentionally tried to shit you. Only your suspicion which may or may not be correct.

2) You did not do thorough enough research on whether or not the part would fit or not. Regardless of not having a box, you should have had measurements or something to go buy in order to make sure this thing would fit for your application.

3) The fact that you lost money on the resale of the wrong part you purchased is no one's fault but your own. If you want a certain price for something, you hold out for that price until someone eventually pays it. You however jumped at a quick sale and in doing so lost money.

I agree with the other posters above me in that you should let it go and chalk it up to a lesson learned, however if you are gonna pout about it and throw insults like a child, then perhaps the people trying to sell things on this forum are better off not having you as a potential customer.

Did the seller advertise the carburetor for sale as something it was not?

I have bought & sold many things on this board, even the truck I drove to work today....no problems.

Buying used is cheaper, but requires more leg work & effort to find what is needed & desired.

Good luck.

This is what I'm still trying to figure out.
The OP has not directly stated that the seller directly lied in his ad. It sounds to me more like the OP made an assumption or misinterpretation about what it was, and is blaming the seller for that.

And if the seller is a representative of everyone on the board where is he?

Hell, where is the original poster for that matter, lol.

I had the weber for sale that the OP missed out on. From what I heard from the dooper and the doopee, it seemed like they both didn't confirm that the carb was gonna work on a 22r. I think the duper might have left out the fact that although the carb was on a Toyota, it didn't work.
