So the old crapola hvac hoses in the attic are all hung from the rafters with 1" strapping and collapsing in half. Any reason that I cant cut them down and lay them in/on the existing blown in insulation? Perhaps hanging keeps them from being stepping on? I just dont see that its practical to keep it this way. Seems that the more insulation around them the better. Any reason not to cut them down and shorten them since they rise up and down the rafters unecessarily.

just that the straps may be the only thing holding them together at this point. I dont know how old they are but if they have much age on them, replace them and run them the way you want it's fairly cheap and easy to do.

'course take my advice with a grain of salt. i dont know anything about building codes.

Dont see why not,we built our house 5 years ago,and due to building beside the river had to put ALL of the hvac stuff in the attic.Ours brand new passed code inspections with it laying on the rafters.

Flex duct for the loss. It's under my house, but as soon as I quit dumping money into the XJ, I'm replacing it. Of course, I'll probably have to get rid of the XJ first, so it'll be a while. A long while.
