ECGS @Cperry is local to NC4X4 and I've had great service from them in the past. I'll stick with them but thanks for the advice.
 
Spartan for the crosspin and noticeably better quality. I tried to cheap out and bought a lock right for my 3.73 gear Dana 30. I had everything apart in my living room putting it in and noticed there was no way the lock right I had was going to fit in the carrier. I ordered the right part and the box was labeled correctly but I think the part was for a ten bolt. Anyway, after holding both side by side, I like the spartan. Is it made in the USA as well
 
I have a question. Why not just get a spool? Isn’t it effectively doing the same thing?

in my case at least I need to buy a new carrier anyway.

No, the lunchbox locker allows the outside tire to freewheel when you turn so that there isn't (as much) binding. That's why you hear the clicking/banging/popping in tight turns.
