Mid 70 cherokee dana 44 front axle. How well do the auto locking hubs stand up and what do I need to change them to manual hubs if I decide to do so?

Are you sure they are Auto hubs and not FULL TIME ?

Auto hubs will say AUTO on the caps most times, and Full time hubs will just have a chrome cap pushed over the end.

Is the Jeep Quadra Trac ? if so, then it is full time and you'll need more than just manual hubs to make it part time. ( if rear diff is offset and the frnt and rear drive shafts are inline to the pas side of vehicle, more than likely you are Quadra trac )

They are not auto they are constant. if you have a Q-trac you can not run the front unlocked unless you have a part time kit. it will burn up the tcase.
they are easy to change just get some warn preminum hubs.

I have taken these apart . there is a crome cover that pries off , spring and gear that come out before you get to the spindle nuts. I do not see any bolt holes to mount a manual hub. I will be installing these axles under my cj7 so no quadratrac transfer case.

Once you buy the manual hub set for the axle you will see how things work.

The inner hub is splined to wheel hub and held in with a spring clip ( the same one you pulled to remove the drive slug and spring ) then the outter hub body will bolt to and be held together with this.

Manual hub kit is like $85 or something

Thanks for the info, can anyone tell me how well the full time hubs hold up.
