still works for now, but having issues with 2nd gear, almost impossible to use when cold, much better when warm. 4th only wants to pop out of gear when cold. so how bad, i have heard something about brass synchros. anybody on the board local to thomasville that can fix these. let me know, this is my daily driver.

no body lift, but does have a tubular transcase drop, this jeep had it on it when i got it, just picked up a stock skid plate. this skidplate drops it quite a bit.

I have somewhat of the same problem with 2nd gear being hard to shift into and sometimes 2nd pops out when its cold, but my 4th works fine. I also have the problem of getting locked out of every gear once the vehicle warms up when I am stopped at a light and leave it in neutral. To get it back in gear I have to jam it into reverse while listening to the gears grind-- sometimes fixes the problem; or let it roll a bit if I'm stopped on a hill and it will usually go back into gear fine. Have heard of plenty other people having this same problem but don't know how to fix it

Someone please enlighten me... What does the body lift/transfer case drop have to do with anything?

1st and 2nd are stiff when it's cold, but that's been par for the course for every manual transmission I've owned. Cold weather = thick gear oil = stiff...

a body lift (or t-case drop) can move the shifter down and this can move a bent/curved part of the shifter to be in a different spot coming through the hole on the floor. Sometimes the shifter boot or other parts can put pressure on the shifter causing it to pop out of gear etc.

A common problem is the synchronizer ring rotates out of alignment with the keys which are rectangular metal pieces located in the syncro hub. This removes any free play which constantly engages that syncro and makes the work of the other synco very difficult (hard to shift). This damages the syncro ring, the good part is it saves more expensive parts. The syncro sleeve or shift collar builds up burrs on each spline reducing clearance causing binding (hard shifting).
