Due to injuries from the military I have to switch my manual transmission to an automatic transmission has anyone ever switched out a ax15 to a 700r4

what engine/chassis/transfer case are you running? if it's a jeep, i'd lean towards the aw4, it's shorter, fairly durable and came factory in jeep vehicles. a 700r4 is a good transmission, but can require a very short driveshaft ina short wheelbase application, and would require adapters to the engine and transfer case in a jeep.

aw4 IS an overdrive, it uses a 0.75 ratio for 4th gear just like a 700r-4. a 42re will also fit with no adapters, but will be a bit longer

Yep aw4, as in 4 speeds, 1 2 3 OD !!
and save a bunch of $ not needing adapters. AW4 is a VERY stout trans. And just like the ax15, was built by AISIN, same guys that built lots of toyota drive train components

9k didn't know that the aw4 was a overdrive tranny but to put it in a tj is not as simple as you would think it is so I'm still going to go with a 700r4 if that means I have to extend my wheel base I will wanted to do that any way. I have to do this because of injuries from Iraq. I was just wondering if anyone else had done this so I could use what they did as a reference.

I want to have an overdrive and I've seen too many of the stock 3 speed fail. I know it will be expensive but for me this is the route I want to go.

I was running the 700r4/231 in my YJ. You will have to get an adapter plate kit. I got mine from Novak, great folks to work with. You will also need to get a lock up kit as well for the TQ. I think it was the S10 and a few others came with the 700R4/231 combo that would work.

Yea I've already been in contact with Novak and I've got my shopping list and I have the amount for everything except for the labor but hope I can get it in soon so I can do some wheeling this year.
