hey guys i have a 78 chevy c10 pick up with 44 inch tires and this truck has a 1/2 ton 10 bolt rear and i want to switch rears to a stronger rear for the big tires what rears should i use for mostly road use but some iffroad use

14 bolt with Chromo shafts if your going to wheel it hard an use a d60 for the front and would look for a cast iron t-case maybe np 205 or 208. Good driveline angle's would help with u-joints. I would run 4:88's or 5:13's gear's

What kind of trans do you have an those gear's an with 44in tires would be okay running between 60-65 an either a 350 turbo or 400 turbo a 700r4 has over drive but ain't very strong unless you spend the money. I had a k5 blazes on 44's with t400 trans with 4.56 gear's and it run good on the highway

thanks for the info and do you think i should go with a ground hawg or tsl swampers or neither..... what is the best road tire avalible in large sizes

The 208 out of the question it's an ally case and doesnt really have a true sye kit. The 205 would be the best with a 400.

But def 14b rear and 60 up front.

Depends on what your going to do the most. Mud,rocks, snow a little of both and is the truck going to be your dd or trail rig. Ground hogs, tsl's, boggers iroc's all good tires.

I have no experience w ground hogs but do with the others. The iroks and Boggers will wear out quickly on the road and while the TSL's arent the best onroad tire they will last longer than the others.

I've never ran hawgs but I know a few guys who have. They all love them. The only thing negative I've heard out of there mouths is they suck on wet grass. They get pretty good mileage out of them. If was up to me I'd run TSLs. Like said before boggers, iroks will wear out pretty quick. But if you don't plan on driving it much then why not.
