Hey all
I am trying to figure out what Axle would be the best upgrade for the rear of my TJ. right now i have a Dana 35 and have been told its not worth building up. Has anyone ever ran a dana 60 rockjock? right now it looks like the most complete upgrade kit but the price is a killer if anyone has some advice for this rookie id be more then glad to listen
thanks

Do you plan to keep the front Dana 30? That makes a difference in what we would recommend for the rear. What will you use this for? just general trailriding?

It really depends on what size tires, and future plans.
I wouldn't bother with the 60, unless you're doing them front/rear (even eventually) and planning for 37"+ tires.
If you're staying around 35" tires or smaller, I'd look for a TJ 44, (600-1000 used) or if you can weld, or have a friend that can, (and weld well. Not the booger welding I did on the farm :D ) you can get an 8.8 from an explorer for the back.

The rock jock 60 is a misprint if you are talking about the $2500 one.

You can pick up built 8.8's, Rubi 44's and standard D44's for a TJ around $1100 to $1500. Just keep an eye out for them.

I saw that 2500 price too. I knew it had to be a misprint. We do need more info.

both stock axles from what i understand are to weak to handle tires over 33" i was planing on a Dana 44 for the front and a rockjock 60 for the rear. the jeep is a dailey driver for another 2-3 years then its goign to be nothing but a toy.
As far as welding goes unless JB is infront of weld im out of luck. i really want to keep the 5 on 4.5 and i think thats all of the posts btw i really do appriciate the time guys im lost like a fart in a whirlwind sometimes when it comes to this stuff

If you are wanting to stay with the 5 on 4.5 bolt pattern, you better stick with the factory front or upgrade to a Rubicon 44 and go with an explorer 8.8 in the rear. If you wheel with some common sense, you will be fine with the stock front and the 8.8 is plenty strong for what you will be throwing at it.

If you are planning on regearing, pick up a high pinion 30 front from a cherokee. Then get either a 8.8 or and xj 44 for the rear and pay someone to weld the brackets up for you. I bought and had someone build my XJ 44 for around 1200. That was brackets labor for the install, new gears, new bearings everything. The nice thing about it is the width is still the same as stock and the bolt pattern stayed the same.

I am running 35's on this same set up with no issues. If you exercise a little self control with the skinny pedal this set up should last you years and years, and save a little $$$ for some other upgrades.
