i think im having an issue. but thats why im in this part of the forum right? anyway, i just bought a set of axles and the rear came with a set of brand new axle shafts. i did some research on stu-offroad.com (and borrowed pictures to help illistrate) and that didnt really answer what i wanted. in the picture shown below, is an axle shaft that is ready to use. the issue with my axle shafts are the outer bearing race of the bearing slips and can actually be removed like in the second picture. but on the other shaft, it is seated firmly. is it a bad bearing? or do i need to give it a couple whacks? or is it fine? first time with this upgrade. thanks for the help!

(never mind the hole, borrowed picture from another site.) outer part of bearing can be removed like so...

On the 9" I used to have in my F150, the race would separate like that. Often it would stay in the axle tube. I always put a thin layer of rtv on the outer surface of the seal and reinstalled. I never had any issues.

It will be fine, all the d44's & 9's I have had were like that after being installed ran then removed.
