Are there any differences running a Chevy Vs Ford 60 front? I know the ford is driver drop and the chevy is passenger drop, but what about strength of the two compared, pros and cons of each? I am looking at doing a SAS on a 1990 Chevy K2500.
Thanks

The ford axle is a high pinion (HP) axle so the gears are reverse cut and actually drives on the correct side of the gear going forward so it is supposed to be slightly stronger. The chevy axle is low pinion so it is actually driving the wrong side of the ring gear when going forward (like a rear axle in reverse) and the pinion is lower so its more likely to get smashed on stuff.

My uncle is starting a sas on my cousins 96 c1500 and turning it into a 4x4 with axles from a military cucv (chevy 60 front, 14 bolt ff rear) with a 4L80E trans and a np205 transfer case. Since yours is already 4x4 the ford axle may be better since you may be able to reuse your existing tcase and the exhaust may not be in the way. The passenger side drop axle will need a new tcase and rerouting of the exhaust adding even more expense to the project.
