I have a 2000 F150 I just did a SAS to (converting a 2x2 to a 4x4).

Problem – Soft brake peddle. I can’t pump them up like I have air in the lines, they stop just a low soft peddle. I bled the brakes over and over and still not any better. Have a new master cylinder and no leaks.

Stock brakes - Was disc (dual piston) up front and rear drums.

Current brakes – Now has 1979 F150 Dana 44 (single piston) disc up front and stock rear drums.

Was told I will have a different feeling between the single piston caliber and the dual piston caliber.

Any idea why my peddle is soft????

Thanks

did you swap the master cylinder? if so...did you bench bleed it?

are the new calipers any or much larger than the old? i read they are only single pisoton, but how much larger? maybe not getting enough fluid to them with the stock MC?

make sure the bleeder is on the caliper is on the top of the caliper and not the bottom....to ensure you have the calipers on the correct sides of the axle.

I had this problem many times. Get a mighty vac from autozone. You will use it more thn you thought. Put the hoze in the master cylinder do the front first then the rear. Pump the mighty vac and let it build pressure and watch the bubbles come up. It can pull the bubbles all the way from the pistons. You just need to do it over and over until the mighty vac can hold full pressure with no more bubbles. you really just got to play with it until you are getting somewhere.

X2 on the bleeder on top. Seen this several times

did you replace the soft lines? They will go bad over the years

All soft brake line are braided.

Even though I am 10 mins down the road from you in raliegh, I cant help you out in person because my mighty vac is in charlotte sitting on my backseat. The mighty vac is the first place I would start though.

4x4k5

thanks for the offer, i just ordered a bleeder kit from Harbor Freight and i know it will be the best $25 i ever spent.

Yea I used it on my hydraulic clutch system, brakes, etc. My friends told me not to return it when I was done with it the first time; good thing I didnt. MY clutch was low on fluid so I drove to autozone to add some in the parking lot, and somehow I pulled air in. I hd my MV with me, and the problem was quickly taken care of. Good luck
