ok here we go.. i have a a problem with the front axle on my mud truck.. where the drive shaft goes into the axle the bearing is blown out.. so now 4 wheel drive now.. i guess u would call that the input shaft or the yoke.. how would i replace it.. do i have to pull the axles out of the houseing? i know this might not be clear but i get confused trying to tell u what is wrong.. idk the kind of axle or the gears in it.. any help?

Mud sucks ass. welcome to the first of many seal and bearing replacements.

Typically, you're looking at getting the axle re-set-up, just like if you had changed gears.

P.S. You need to learn more about your vehicle. :flipoff2:

Yeah... not too sure about to telll you. Some axles have a removeable yoke, most don't. Not sure what you have, so I couldn't tell you what to do. Most likely though, it doesn't, so you'd need to disassemble the internals of the housing to get to it.

no offense man, but if youre going with the, oh well, i will just take it apart plan, you dont need to be messing with pinion bearings

they require precise tolerances and don't tolerate just being stuck together until they "feel tight"

also, what axle is it?

I'm with Rich, mess with mud for long and you will be opening it up soon to replace those exact same bearings once again, along with seals and possibly carrier bearings, mud sucks.....

ok maybe this will help its the first bearing right after where the drive shaft conncets..

its the same axle but just not mine..

Somehow I doubt you have a rear axle up front... but who knows what kinda axles mud guys use. Im with everyone else on learning more about your truck.

Call the guy you bought it from and ask him what it is if its not a stock axle, if its stock post up what kinda truck you have and someone will surely tell you what kind of axle you have.

As far as replacing it yourself, I wouldnt try it unless you do a lot of research and buy a the right tools for the job. Its just one of those things that is a little more in depth than changing a wheel bearing.

Good luck.

That pic looks like a Dana 44, but it is a front axle in the pic, there are front dana 44's tho

You can't just take it apart and put it back together, it sounds like you have no mechanical knowledge. You need a press, bearing splitter, micrometer, inch lb torque wrench, torque wrench, dial indicator and some skill

The bearing that your talking about is the outer pinion bearing, and its very likely that that is not all that is wrong, it probably took out both pinion bearing and most likely the rong and pinion as well

I can rebuild the axle for you for $300 plus the parts cost at my offroad shop in wilmington

Take a picture of your axle and post it up. Or tell us some about your truck. That would help.
