Have a chance to purchase 02 Ford F-250 axles front is a Dana 50 high pinion and the rear is a sterling 10.5. I have a 99 TJ would this be a good investment? any thoughts from my fellow wheelers?

Depends what size tire you plan to run, I think the d50 fronts are said to be kinda weak but you can use the c's and knuckles off of them for a 14 bolt steer axle. the 10.5 rear is plenty strong.

I'm running 35's on stock wrangler axles now and I beat them pretty hard. I dont plan on going much if any bigger maybe 37's at most.

You deffinately wont have problems out of the rear axle but maybe somebody can chime in on the 50's durability. You might want to look at gear and locker availability for both axles to make sure you can get the ratio or kind of locker you want.

Thanks for the advice, Yeah I just found them for sale and thought it was a good deal does $500 for the pair sound about right?

If your on 35's wouldn't those axles kill your differential ground clearance?

The f250 Dana 50 is not really any any stronger than a 44 unless you want to put a bunch of money in it they are basically a 44 internally The housing is a little bigger but not much

I've heard (never researched) that after market on a 10.5 is scarce and pricy. Dunno how true but if you plan on gearing and locking it I'd double check..... Plus side though you do get 35 spline axles and its a full floater with disk brakes

If they're going under a TJ, I'm sure they'll be fine. I'd definitely check on gearing and lockers before you buy them to make sure you can get what you want. Also, the 8x170mm lug pattern is kind of annoying to me, but wheels are easy enough to find now.

Dana 50's are fairly strong but limited support. Inner shafts are same strength as 44 as they are 30 spline but run the larger 806 joint. It is a lot of money and time to install an axle like that in a TJ so if you are going to do it, use a 60 or at some point you will be sorry. F10.5 is strong locker choice is ARB, detroit, lockright with open case most come with T/L's. 14 bolt parts are cheaper with more options and a bit stronger with option to shave. Both axle are also a metric 8 lug wheel pattern

Show off :flipoff2:

Huh! Im putting a set of these under a YJ as we speak! Putting 37"-40" A/T tires for on road and some mild wheeling! We'll see how they hold up!

Oh yea...Damn that metric bolt pattern and their course studs!

Yep. 14mm-2.0, kind of an odd size. Ford has always had to be different for some reason.
