I have a 97 TJ and I would like to put bigger tires on it but want to put beefer axles under it. I was trying to find some used Dana 44 or Dana 60 axles to rebuild.
Does anyone know of any for sale?
Also, someone said I could use the axles from a 97/98 ford explorer 8.8 but wasn't sure if OX lockers would work on it. Does anyone know? Is this even a viable solution?

i have a D44 for sale, its 64.5" wms-wms, so it would fit good under a tj. ive got a pic of the same width axle under a CJ if u wanna kinda get an idea of the width. just PM me ure email if u want that pic or if ure interested in the axle, asking $175 thanx cory

if it was under a cj it would be a pass side drop, and tj's are driver side. if you want to go d44, look at ford (full width) or a 1980+ grand cherokee (about 60-61" wms-wms).

only the rear of the exploder will work and yes an OX will work in it
and unless you just want full widths your axles would be fine with a little TLC
a good friend of mine has a XJ (same axles as yours) with 4.88, spool rear, OX front with cromoly shafts, and 37'' tires and has never had a problem and we have beat the crap out of it every where we go- DPG, tellico, Callente, URE, ETC ETC
good luck with your choice and if you are interested I have a 8.8 for sale

I think you might mean '80+ Cherokee, Grands didnt come around til '93 also have D30's up front.

I will have a d44 rear out of a tj for sale sometime relatively soon, let me know if you are intersted. it is coming out of a tj so it will drop right in yours.

my bad, I meant wagoneer!
