I have a '23 Silverado with a Bradford Built hauler bed on it. When the back-up camera is active at night, the license plate light causes the display to be so bright, I can't see much else in the cab, much less anything on the camera. Any wiring gurus on here that can offer a solution? I feel like there's a diode and some wiring I could put on the the tag light so it deactivates when the truck is put in reverse, I just don't have that knowledge.

Thanks!

you could wire in a relay to break power when the back up lights come on. Use the reverse signal to the coil and wire the relay to normally closed. so the reverse lights trigger the relay to open and turn he light off.

Going to be a dumb question, but…hear me out.

When was the last time you wiped that lens off the camera? I thought I had this issue with the OEM camera grafted into the Norstar bed on my truck but if I don’t regularly wipe off the camera lens mine does the same white out effect from the light hitting all the dust on the lens.

It'd be helpful to see a picture of the back of the bed and how everything is mounted. I'm betting you could rotate the license plate light(s) though, so they shine downward...if they're not already.

This is the only photo I have of it on my phone right now. You can barely see the tag light on the far left side of the plate.

Thought it was required to pass inspection?
It is and is also one of the po-po’s favorite late Friday night reasons to pull you after you’ve had a couple at dinner and then you’re on the shoulder, on one foot, touching your nose with your right index finger…..

Or so I heard….

you can brake the light connection with a relay and tagging reverse light. pin 85 ground, pin 86 to reverse light 12v, cut the 12v wire going to the lic plate light, truck side to pin 87a, light side to pin 30. Get a weatherproof relay if you plan to mount under the truck at the rear.

Looks like it shines sideways. I'd move it and make it shine downward and away from the camera. Seems pretty easy.

Put a piece of tape to cover the part of the tag light that is shining on the camera to shield it and leave the part to shine on the tag if that works paint that part of the light you covered. Cheap and fast plus no wiring.
This idea is looking better and better.

Is that the Light to the left of the plate, then the camera directly above the plate? All surround by one of the most reflective surfaces you could have on the back of a truck, Diamond plate?

If so, you need to unplug the light and plug it back in for inspections or when LEO pulls you. Or relocate the light. it's going to reflect all over that diamond plate.

Yeah, and it's LED, so it's super bright. I've seen a version of a tag light defeat on eBay for Jeep and Tacoma, but I guess I'm solo in this issue. I'll try what @jeepn-jason referenced earlier so it still functions normally.
