Well I get to work today and get a good kick in the junk. My boss decides that since the business isn't doing so well my hours need to be cut down to part time. Now, I know many people have been having hours cut and been laid off but I have a serious problem with this. See, when I first started this job I was hired on as full time to take over for the guy that was leaving and promised to stay full time. I worked full time for about a month and half when the OWNER hired a guy that had worked for the company years before but quit. So I get bumped down to part time and they hire a new manager. So the new manager promises me at least 20 hours a week. This doesn't happen either. So from about mid June 2010 until Jan 1 2011 I'm getting roughly 1-2 days a week maybe. From Jan 1 2011 til Jan 17 2012 I have been full time. I haven't called in, I was late once months after I moved to Kannapolis and it was only 4 min. As a matter of fact I normally show up 10+ min before the boss does. I have worked for this company almost 2 years ( been at that store longer than anyone else there ). She has hired a part time guy but refuses to let him go. Hired a guy last April but refuses to cut his hours. I do more work than anyone in the store and I do it faster than anyone in the store. I even sell more parts, fix more computers, and I rarely have computers come back because of the same problem. I'm a good worker and I want to work but all of this doesn't make a difference to her. Her reason for putting me back to part time is, and I quote, "You were part time when I started, so you can just go back to that status." end quote. I have already told her what I thought about it and I thought it was unfair. So I will be going with the Laid Off status so I can pound the pavement up here in Kannapolis and surrounding areas.
I was pretty pissed off at first and in shock since I didn't know what to do or say, but, after coming home and getting to church a little late and talking with the pastor and my wife I had a realization. If I take the laid off status I will be home more with the kids while looking for another job. This will give me more time to actively look for a job and save the gas I was using driving to and from Charlotte everyday. I will still have money coming in so I can get my bills paid. I will also be able to study up on some certs that I need to get out of the way.
PS.
Anyone looking for a damn good computer tech that has a great work ethic.
