ive got a a chevy 10bolt and 12 bolt sitting under a '80 chevy at the house that i was wondering if they would be worth putting under a toyota p/u ....i like the idea of full width but are they gonna be strong enough for what i was to do...

here is what i want to do:

gear to around 4:10-4:56
double t-case 2:28 & 4:70
and up to 39" tires...(36"-39")

are the 10bolt and 12 bolt strong enough to handle that and if not what would have to be done to bring them up to that point...

BOTTOM LINE....FREEBIES!!!
BUT WILL I END UP SPENDING MORE IN THE LONG RUN??

THANX,
MIKE

seems like a waste of time. MOST toy axles are already geared 4.10, and the strength of a toy 8" vs those axles is arguable at best. The ONLY thing you'd be gaining is width.

Stay with the toy 8" axles, or go 60's

The Toy axles are stronger than the Corporates you're thinking about swapping in. Remember, just because they came under a hebby chebby doesn't mean they're stronger!

I have no comment on the strength as compared to toys, as Ive never messed with Birfields, etc.

I would only say those axles under that light a truck and a 40" tire should hold up forever, given intelligent use of the skinny...

I would have to argue that a stock 8" is stronger than a 10 bolt. With longfields, absolutly. I agree that I would not do the swap though.

imo i think u will be breaking parts w/ the gm axles unless u upgrade all the shafts & joints to hard stuff, not cheap to do. money would be better spent improving the toy axles, you could get more width w/ 10" wheels & maybe some wheel spacers. good luck w/ it

Yea, don't polute your toyota with GM junk. The toy axles are much stronger than the 10 bolt. Ane they're easier to service should you break something. There's a reason someone is giving away GM stuff.

Make a 4x4 Go-kart with them if you absolutely have to use them. Leave the Toys where they are, though. :huggy:
