Looks like I'll be doing ball joints some time in the near future. Anyone know a rent-a-tool program that rents the ball joint press for less than $100? AZ and O'Reilly's both gave me those prices, and Advance couldn't speak Engrish. I plan on freezing the joints and baking the knuckle, and using a BFH with a piece of wood, but in case that doesn't work, I'd like to have the press as back up. Or if someone has one I can borrow, I'd appreciate it. Yes, I also realize HF has the tool for $35, but I've twisted 2 of them in the past and never had luck with them. Thanks for any info.

$100 is the going rate at the part stores. I haven't found it cheaper anywhere. What are you pressing them out of? The HF has always worked well for me when coaxed with a BFH.

$100 is the norm. Why not pay it? You get it back...

come see me @ az in kanapolis. will work you a deal.

The 100 is just a deposit. You get a full refund when you bring it back. Even if it breaks you get your money back.

Is there a time limit on returning the borrowed tools? I have a couple sets of ball joints to do, so I might keep the one I borrowed a little longer. (got it from the Salisbury AZ)

Thanks guys...I just got fish hooks in my wallet, and didn't know if the $100 was legit or if there was someplace else.

if you need it for the day or can do what you need in a couple of hrs i can "work" a deal. cant do anything if you need it overnite.

Just pay the $100 from the big box part store (OReily, Autozone, Advance). Save your receipt and return it within 90 days. The kit is pretty heavy duty. I just changed a ball joint on my Dodge 2500.
