We are looking online for a builder that does residential steel framing/steel siding to discuss our new home. We have looked quite a bit but the web presence of such a builder seems to escape me. We did find Morton has an office in Lexington and we will be contacting them I guess.

Does anyone have an idea for another builder?

We don’t necessarily need a bardominium in the strict definition but are looking for familiarity in residential steel homes. I had a thread on this a few years ago but we are pretty much ready to get started now.

We like this design pictured below, not necessarily with the huge window on the end but tall with steep roof and porches on both sides. We want concrete floor and of course concrete under porches but probably with a step down to stop any water. We want a large open floor plan with kitchen on one end and loft above that. I think 30x50 or 30x60 would do us well, it’s just the 2 of us.

@trailhugger told me back then to orient it with the peak running east/west and with enough overhang to mitigate summer sun but not so much as to stop winter sun. Thinking sprayed insulation and good mini-split system and woodstove.

I know a guy who is semi-retired but might have other contacts... I'll ping him and let you know what I hear.

Does it have to be a steel beam building? What your asking for is kinda a specialty thing. You could get a metal building erector and put the shell up and then have any regular contractor finish out the inside.

Also side note we just priced a metal building for a project it’s six month lead time to get one now.

Not steel beam, steel studs and siding and steel trusses.

You don't want a Morton building then. They are a true wooden pole, wood framing in pole barn style builder. Then Morton caps it with wooden trusses and skinned in metal.
Post in dirt, rat skirt, then pour to what is in place.

The owners of r&r ironworks are both currently building very cool homes of their own out of their post frame kits, ill try and get some pics. They can design and draw you anything you want, and as long as its not crazy any builder that can build a barn can put it up then any carpenter or half assed framer in the country can finish out the inside and windows/doors as nothing is load bearing.

I am starting one really soon(waiting on my rent house to sell in Aug) and used @CasterTroy for design and his builder to build it. It has been a blast designing and brain storming with this duo!

We live above our horse barn but it was stick frame/board and batten siding. But i have used Morton for a few buildings on my farm. They will do anything you want but are expensive. My buddy runs one of their crews there. Right now they will not price anything for the rest of the year because of too much work and lumber price volatility. They can build slab on grade or on stem walls. My shop I built last year is a Morton built on 10" wide and 8" wide concrete walls. Post frame above that. They also have precast concrete column if you don't want would in the ground and its cheaper than stem walls. They will also just frame the shell and you can hire a contractor/builder to do the interior finish work, they sub all that anyway in a Morton house and charge 20%.

I have a line on some help (nc4x4 has some amazing folks) and hopefully by fall we might be in the process of getting this thing done.
