1. Has any body ever had a bathtub repainted with any success?
I'm looking at carolina resurfacing to do the work. They are way more expensive and have a life time warranty.

This is just the shower part.

I can get a fiberglass replacement tube for about $600 bucks that includes the walls and tub
or
I can refinish the old cast iron tub but $449 and tile the walls for probably $300 or so

2. I need a counter top as well, who would you recommend. No granite.
Has to be custom because of the location of the sink.

IMO I'd go with what you will want it to look like in the end. E.g. if you like cast iron tubs and tile, do that.

Personally I find the 1-piece fiberglass tub/surround things pretty boring and generic. To me says "this was the minimum for a bathroom".

If done proper, the paint works. You can buy the stuff and do it yourself and it works well too. As far as the counter top, look into a "post formed" top that can be made to look like marble, granite or whatever. The place in this area is called Lawing Marble of Lincolnton. Not sure if this helps but there it is.

I had a cast iron tub refinished. Went with a guy that charged about 4 times as much as the guys that refinish tubs in apartments. Reason was their reputation and the fact that they use the right product and that not just a product that "works". It came out great and we were very happy with it.

Ok went acrylic tub. Now its whipping me. Any insights on why the gaps suck?

Walls probably aren't square. Did you shim it?

The seams in those things are the exact reason why I hate them. No way to ever make them look nice.

Poor casting...can you get it to fit together proper if you pull it out from the wall Wmd just do a test fit?

It is already pulled away from the back wall some. That helped it some. I stacked all three piece together with no screws and wiggled it around to find the best fit. And unfortunately this is it. It's getting me down a bit because if it doesn't look right then the whole bathroom will look half assed. I don't really want that. I wouldn't be happy if I payed someone to do that. I've also thought about spacing the other parts up to match the gap.

At first I thought it was the sub floor. It is old and is just 1x12's on the diagonal. So I removed the whole thing and put down a nice new piece of plywood under the shower/tub section. That helped some with the levelness and rocking.

In all honestly I did a lot of different things today to get it to look right and I don't think that I ever got that gap to look right.

It is off the back wall about 9/16" and off the right wall 5/8" (61" opening w/ 60" tub/shower) So there is not anything physically preventing it from going down. I don't think.

That's a lot of jumbled information. Hopefully it makes sense.
