I am taking out a one-piece bath shower and installing a Kohler choreograph surround (high-end three-piece). I will need to add a backer to the walls. My question is to do hardibacker and redgard , OR since it is a man-made surround will green board and redgard be fine?
Thanks

I just helped my brother in law remodel his bathroom. He’s a GC. Anything that had potential to get wet was done in duroc. I’d never heard of it until I started tearing it out.

If you're going to redgard it anyway, greenboard is fine. Its probably more a question of which product you can more easily line up w the outer drywall or whatever is around the enclosure.
Tip - when you hang it, be sure to leave a small gap at the bottom where your back board meets the base, that will be covered by the shower surround.
That way if there ever an overflow it wont wick up the back board and be stuck up inside the wall.
