The Federal hoard has arrived in the eastern part of our fair state. They have taken Roanoke Island and Ft. Macon. Now rumors run rampant that Newbern is their next point of concern. If it's a party they want,then by god they will have it. The 26th N.C. along with the other regiments in Branch's brigade,plus a local militia unit,have thrown up strong defenses along the railroad from the river to the brick yard and on to the swamp...
