I need a place to take some coworkers to show them what REAL NC BBQ is.
We'll be at the Devil's Playground, looking for a place to go at lunchtime (today).

Maybe we'll bring a bunch back for dinner at the camp tonight.

No kidding...and the fattest people I've ever seen assembled all at one feeding hole. I weigh about 235 and I looked like I was a crack head compared to the rest of their customers.
 
Troutman's will not be visited by me again!
 
I try and hit all the BBQ joints around. To me, Lexington BBQ is overrated. It's good, but not up to it's reputation. Troutmans failed the test on just one account...consistency...been there three times, vastly different experience each time. Speedys would be my choice in the area.

Mr. Barbaque in winston-salem, same location since 1961 and a standing line every day at lunch six days a week for as long as I can remember! Best hushpuppies and BBQ IMO! S. Peters Creek Pky.
 
yea speedys is usually the better of the bunch. some other good ones are stamey's and smokey joes, backcountry

but anybody who goes to the monk (lexington bbq) is just going off their t.v. fame if you ask us around lexington speedys is usually the place

edit: another is in welcome its called ricks smokehouse they have awesome briskets
 
Dave, next time you make it into Winston for a meal, call me. I'll take you to Bib's. Hell, I look for any excuse to go. I ate my last leftover rib from there today. I'm thinking about going back for dinner!

I don't know which way you get down here from MD, but if you ever go by Wilson, NC, you should stop into Bill Ellis' BBQ for the whole hog buffet, damn that is some good eatin' !!

We went to Speedy's pretty soon after C class ended.
They were thoroughly impressed. Even kept our leftovers to have for breakfast :beer:
Got me a whole plate of REAL BBQ and real (AKA SWEET) tea.
Bought an extra 2 lbs to bring home.
