Leslie and I had an awesome time!
I broke a front drive shaft on the first thing I hit, which was get skinny. No biggie. I had to winch out the by-pass and then back to camp and welded it up. The cool thing about it, I didn't know it as I was finding a way back to my campsite, but I had someone following me. Turns out Brian Green followed me all the way out, helped me take the drive shaft out, and held it so I could re-weld it. Sure is nice to know you have friends! Big thanks also to Jeramie and Dean who loaned me a grinder to clean it up so I could get a good weld on it.
I went back in and headed straight to Bee's nest. I made several attempts, but the leafs just wouldn't let me go, too much wheel hop. I tried the by-pass and got hung up on a tree and ended up winching again. Bummer!
Spent the rest of the day riding around and talking to a lot of old friends that I don't get a lot of chances to see. Won a coat in the Matco Raffle. Leslie already told me I couldn't wear it to work in! LOL
I watched the mother of fallen BDB member Johnny D give a heart felt response to the club and their memorial tribute to a very well though of and loved member. I watched the club to a drive thru, last run for Johnny thru the woods. We had several Rock Corps members there and because of the success from past open invites we were able to give a donation to the family of Johnny D.
I enjoyed some campfire time, and camaraderie and then off to bed.
Sunday brought a lazy morning since we had to be in no hurry. Riding doesn't start till 12 on Sunday out of respect for the church across the road.
My big moment came when I finally decided to try 5 ways out. I watched and studied it for a good while and thought I could do it. I did! I was able to crawl it, with out bashing. That felt good.
Later I was riding around and headed up RPM. This is a tight trail and while trying to go around a big tree, using the tree to pivot around, I broke the traction bar and got a brake line too. Was a weird break, the top piece of tube where the spring bushings went through it, broke in half so I had only a half a tube still attached. So, some minor fixing, and then to Harlan in a couple weeks
Big thanks to the Big Dixie Boggers for putting this on again. You guys and gals are a class act! I am ashamed to admit, more of you know my name than I do yours, but then again, I have trouble with my own name.
Thanks to the Lutheran Church who put on the feed bag. My burger and fries were delicious.
Thanks to the ice cream guy who always has my favorite pop cycle
And thanks to everyone who showed up, and behaved. I am sure we'll get to do it again!
