Are there any places on the NC coast that you can ride on the beach this time of the year. I wanted to do something with my youngest daughter this weekend.

yeah, you need a permit, its 10 bucks a day. took me a little over 5.5 hrs. i'm here now:flipoff2:

corolla beach...the very northern tip of NC shoreline.
yea going up into carova. I was up there about 2 weeks ago. Its a hike to get there and it was pretty beat then. offseason its great to drive and once you get a few miles up the coast the driving quality gets really good for a stock vehicle. I didn't have a prob with a stock grand besides dragging my ass end through the ruts for the first mile.

x2, you can go for miles. There are some amazingly big houses way up the beach and 4x4 is the only way to get to 'em.

Yea we stayed 12.5 miles up the 4x4 last year a few times and you could drive another 5 miles easy and be to the virginia line

Some pics of the area

riding up the beach. This is how nice it is once you get down a lil ways. Sorry for the quality. hard to drive and take pics

You can just park and hang out.

I believe you can still drive on the beach at Fort Fisher. The Carolina Beach and Fort Fisher accesses are approx 8 miles from each other. People will usually refer to these two as the north end (Carolina Beach) and south end (Fort Fisher). A permit is required for either and they are two different permits. The Carolina Beach end is actually called Freeman Park and is controlled by the city. The Fort Fisher end is considered National "Forest" and controlled as such. The Fort Fisher end has more beach to drive on if that is what you want. Both are great places.

I'd make a week/weekend out of it. The prices on rentals are way down and only dropping with the season starting to wind down this coming month. If you want send me a pm and can hook you up with the people we work with. Its awesome to have a house out in the 4x4 area.

You can also drive on North Topsail beach without a pass or fee. You really can't go that far but it is nice to go out on. If you have access to a militray ID card you can drive on Onslow Beach on Camp Lejeune. I am going to Carolina Beach this weekend to screw around for a bit.

The Carolina Beach Freeman Park fee has gone up. It's $20 bucks to drive out witch is a rip off. Blame it on the city council. Fort Fisher is still $10 bucks but it's only open from 9am - 830pm and you can't camp out like you can at the north end. You definately have to watch the tide depending on how far south you drive. You may get stranded and have to wait it out. OBX would be my selection and a stock jeep will have no issues in any of those places. Good Luck and have fun.
